String Music from Scott Walker
I have been teaching cello and orchestra for over 50 years, all in the Greensboro N.C. area. My first job was In Burlington NC at Williams High School where Dr. Malvin Artley began the string program long before I got there. During 1969, my first year in Burlington, he was teaching at what was then called Elon College, and was kind enough to invite me to be the associate conductor of the Elon College Community Orchestra. I have always loved conducting, and really appreciated the opportunities he and Dave Bragg, who followed Dr. Artley gave me over the years.
I taught orchestra in many settings over the years, in public and private schools and have enjoyed composing for my students. I have several of these pieces for sale on my website here: https://thewalkerfamilyband.com/shop/
I am especially glad to share my cello ensemble work as well. This MP3 is the final movement of “Reflections on Lake Brandt”, entitled ‘Steps on the Land’ intended for 4 advanced players. The first movement is called “Wind in the Water. I also have a simplified arrangement of Vivaldi’s Spring, first movement, for 4 cellos and bass, intended for advanced high school players.
This ensemble music is offered with the hope that string musicians will return to some form of normalcy in the very near future, and we will be fully active again. I think it is beginning to happen!
I was joined in these performances by a very supportive group of string teachers and performers. Credit goes to Karen Collins, Alex and Stephanie Ezerman, Victor Huls, Linda Minke, Kelly Burgess, and Tracey Maxwell for helping us out!
Thank you,
Scott Walker

For string quartet (2 violins, viola, cello):
Edition 66
Richard Strauss: Medley from “Der Rosenkavalier”
arranged by Armin Behr
Score (12 pages) and four parts, price: 29.- euros
Heavenly music for professional use or very advanced pupils. The prototype of this arrangement has already been performed successfully. Some final adjustments have been made for this edition.
For 8 or 12 cellos:
Edition 65
Astor Piazzolla: Fuga Y Misterio
arranged by Tobias Sykora
Score (27 pages) and 12 parts, Price: 41,- Euros
What takes a long time finally comes into fruition. This gem “Fuga Y Misterio” from Astor Piazzolla’s and Horatio Ferrer’s opera “Maria from Buenos Aires” I have published just in time for the composer’s hundredth birthday in a version for 12 cellos.
This arrangement can be played by 8 or 12 players. Sometimes there are bracketed notes which only in the octet version should be played as double stops. Emphasis was placed on practicality. It is a wonderful piece for advanced cellists.
For 8 cellos:
Edition 64
Maurice Ravel: Bolero
arranged by Martin Burkhardt
Score (21 pages) and 8 parts, price 39.- euros
One of the most famous pieces of classical music. While the original displays changes in sound colours and a continuous crescendo this arrangement for 8 cellos is most successful. Martin Burkhardt decided not to make a literal version and this cello-ensemble-version is limited to 160 bars. For the full length of the piece a variety of instruments would be necessary for it to be kept interesting. This arrangement had a successful launching at the cello summer and is great fun.
These editions have been printed on high quality paper at a new printer with whom I am very pleased. I shall be soon be posting samples on the publisher’s homepage. Up to orders in the value of 30,- Euros postage is charged. For private orders above 30,- Euros in value the publisher pays the cost of postage up to 3,- Euros.
Let me know if you need more information. You can make an order using an answering mail or the contact form on the homepage.
I hope you stay healthy!
