Dear NC and SC Music Teachers,
I am writing to announce a new opportunity for the musicians of North Carolina and South Carolina. If you have adult students who struggle with pain and tension, the Alexander Technique can help show them how to become more aware of movement and playing habits that are impacting their music-making in a negative way. By undoing these habits, movements become freer, techniques become easier, and musicality is expressed through sound instead of effort.
At the request of a local teacher, I have started an Alexander Technique workshop for adult violin and viola students (future classes are also available for younger students and non-string players, as well). The classes will be happening about once a month in Wilmington, NC and are designed to help students apply the Alexander Technique to their playing, so that they can get the most out of their private lessons and performances. The coursework is not designed to replace private lessons. The workshops help students work to their fullest potential by playing with less tension. Instrument positioning and equipment will also be addressed. If you have any students (or you) who you think could benefit from this class, I would love to have them participate. Please have them get in touch with me via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or phone (910-777-1809). The class is limited in size and is an hour and a half. The next class is at my home in Wilmington, NC on Saturday, May 20th, from 11 am - 12:30 pm and is $75. Please let me know if you have any questions and feel free to share this with other string or instrumental teachers in the area. I look forward to continuing to provide the Alexander Technique to the musicians of our community and surrounding areas.
